Open Police Records Request

Pursuant to KRS 61.870 to 61.884, the public is notified that, as provided herein, the public records of the Shepherdsville Police Department are open for inspection by any person on written application to Darren Patchin, Support Services Commander, official custodian of the public records or the Shepherdsville Police Department whose address is 634 Conestoga Parkway, Shepherdsville, Kentucky, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm., Monday through Friday, each week except holidays.

Application forms for the inspection of public records of this agency will be furnished on request to any person or by an employee in this office. Assistance in completing the application form will be provided by an employee on request. Applicants for the inspection of public records shall be advised of the availability of the records requested for inspection, and shall be notified in writing not later than three (3) working days after receipt of an application for inspection of any reason the records requested are not available for public inspection. Copies of written material in the public records of this agency shall be furnished to any person requesting them on payment of a fee, copies of non-written records (photographs, maps, material stored in computer files or libraries, etc.) shall be furnished on request, on payment of a charge equal to the actual cost of producing copies of such records by the most economic process not likely to damage or alter the record.

Crime and Incident Reports

Crime and Incident Reports can be Released to

  • Victim(s)
  • Authorized representative of victim
  • Insurance carrier against which a claim has been made and/or might be made
  • Person suffering bodily injury, property damage or loss

Crime and Incident Reports Cannot be Released to

  • If the disclosure would endanger the safety of a witness or other involved party
  • If disclosure could endanger the successful completion of an investigation and/or related investigation
  • Name and address of a victim(s) of certain specified crimes will not be disclosed
  • If the Department is prohibited by law from releasing the report (e.g. child abuse reports)

Traffic Collision Reports

Traffic Collision Reports Can be Released to

  • Drivers involved in the collision
  • Registered owners of vehicles involved
  • Parents of a minor driver involved
  • Passengers involved listed in the report
  • Insurance companies
  • Those incurring property damage as a result of the accident
  • Those who may incur civil liability as a result of the accident
  • Any attorney who declares under penalty of perjury that he or she represents any of the above persons

Juvenile Reports

Released to parents of a juvenile may receive a copy of certain types of reports if their child is the only juvenile identified in the report. All other requesters must petition the Presiding Judge of the Juvenile Court directly for the release of juvenile records. The Juvenile Court has the exclusive authority to determine whom, and the extent to which juvenile record information may be released.
